Height adjustable kitchen benchtops – Sentio at MSWA Shenton Park
03. The Brief
Designed for accessible, independent living
At Shenton Park, MSWA’s 20 one-bedroom apartments have been conceived as a residential environment that supports independence, while providing the level of care and accessibility required by its residents.
Within each apartment, the kitchen forms an important part of the everyday living environment. The brief called for a space that could respond to different physical requirements without compromising the sense of a contemporary home.
The kitchens integrate accessibility as part of the architectural design rather than treating it as an addition. For Sentio, this meant providing a surface that could support the adaptability of the space while maintaining a considered residential aesthetic.
The result is a height-adjustable benchtop that responds to the individual user, the working surface can be lowered to provide a more accessible position for wheelchair users, then raised again when required.
For Sentio, Shenton Park demonstrates how accessibility and design can exist seamlessly within the same architectural language, where functionality is integrated, considered and ultimately invisible within the finished space.
The Designer’s Perspective
When it came to specifying the kitchen benchtops at Shenton Park, Sentio offered a material solution that aligned perfectly with the design’s requirements; a silica-free composition with straight-forward fabrication requirements, compatibility with height-adjustable elements, and a versatile range of stone-inspired colours that complement all five apartment schemes used throughout the project. The Sentio benchtops give the kitchens a sophisticated and elevated feel.
